Terms and Conditions for Enrollment

Please read and sign below to ensure a  FUN music immerion class for your child each week.

This is simply to make sure that we, adults, are all on the "same page". (pun intended. )

Music Together Mid Island is a research-driven and developmentally appropriate mixed age class for newborns to 6 yrs., along with the Grown ups who love 'em!

Due to it being a modelling of musical behaviours, each adult is expected to come to each class each week ready to sing and dance for their child.

Shy singer or dancer? No problem.

Watch and listen to the teacher/facilitator in this informal education class, repeat and sing quietly to your child, and think of your "dancing" as movement for them to learn needed physical literacy such a bi-directionality/crossing the midline etc.

Why?  Because... YOUR voice is your childs' FAVOURITE voice.

Speaking of Voices....

Music immersion is the goal for each class,  so please keep talking to a minimum, by  re-directing your speaking voice into singing, and do your best to save the social catch up time - all of us parents need that!- for  the beginning or the end of class only.

Why?  Children hear spoken voices all day long, so please be a helper, and let's keep the music immersion going for the benefit of all of the children.

Not designed as a performance class, but rather,  a relaxed informal music immersion class that is fun , as we all explore our voices with sound layering and move our bodies in rhythm .

(No exam will ever be given - it's true!;)

Only you as their beloved parent/grandparent/caregiver can give the child in your care,  the disposition towards the joy of music!

It is also expected that parents/grandparents/nannies will listen to and play the music for their child outide of class, along with their songbook.

Easy life hack - simply repeat what we did in class that day!

Toddlers, especially, love and need repetition, as part of their cognitive development.

This musical process is needed to help your child achieve Basic Music Competence*(BMC)

*Note:  It is understood that BMC is not acquired in one 9 week semester.  Like any skill set, it takes years. Music Together® is designed to be a 3-5 year program.

Just like literacy for reading, there are many steps before a child can achieve BMC ,  and it does take years... just like reading, playing sports etc...

Music Together is all about teaching your child how to play WITH music, before they PLAY music.

Safety is  key in this mixed age class, so it is expected that if or when your child is moving -especially if said movement develops into running or a chase game-that the adult responsible for the child , will re-direct the movement into dance,  and/or another movement (ie. hopping etc.).

This is to ensure that the newborns in class are as safe as the toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children.

Re-directing not working?   Another tactic is to take a break from the musical stimuli, and  simply leave the circle with your child, head out of the class  into the hallway for a few minutes to get the "wiggles" out , and then... most importantly, do come back in*!

(*Not to be seen as a punishment  in any way whatsoever, simply a tried and true method to keep all children safe and therefore, all able to have FUN!)

Re:  Food and Drink in class

Please keep food -due to food allergies- outside of the classroom, and feed your child, if needed,  out in the hallway.

Then again, please come back in as musically as you can,  to ensure that your child receives the lovely flow/ rituals / of the Lullaby and Goodbye song every week.

(If it's been a rough week, adults will find that they may need that lullaby more than their child!)

Re: Make up Classes

The courtesy make up classes have no monetary value.

If unable to attend a class at your "home" location, each new family is alloted 3 make up classes per semester *at a different day and time.

(*Note:  This term and condition is not for the last semester of registered STICKS families, but for NEW families to the MARACAS session. )

The make up classes must be used within the current 9 week semester that you have registered for.

Finally, Are you  NEW  in town, and new to the Music Together program?

Do you have a friend or family member who wants to try out the class before committing to it?

If so, they may attend with their  child with a  Drop-in fee of $19/ class.  This option may be used twice in the semester.

If a Drop in class is desired, email Marnie at [email protected] within 24 hours of class and e-transfer the $19/class to [email protected]
